Farmers across Ekiti State are already reaping the rewards of the state government’s sustained agricultural interventions, as they record unprecedented harvests this season. This revelation was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, during a special live Yoruba-language radio and television simulcast titled “Ṣé ẹ ti gbọ?” aired across all broadcasting stations in the state.
Speaking during the programme, the Commissioner noted that the agricultural sector in Ekiti has witnessed significant transformation under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. He attributed the current glut in farm produce and the resulting decrease in food prices in local markets to deliberate government policies aimed at repositioning the sector.
Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun disclosed that the state government has strategically supported farmers by encouraging the cultivation of high-demand crops such as maize, cassava, vegetables, and various fruits. Additionally, the administration has made sizeable investments in livestock farming and other agricultural enterprises to broaden the state’s food production base.
“The impacts of the Oyebanji-led administration’s initiatives are now visible to all. Prices of staple food items have dropped significantly due to an increase in food production. Farmers are happy, and the people are relieved. This is the direct result of pragmatic planning and purposeful leadership,” he said.
Describing the Oyebanji administration as both inclusive and responsive, Olatunbosun emphasized that the government is actively engaging with citizens at all levels to ensure that policies reflect the genuine needs and aspirations of the people. According to him, this people-centric approach has enhanced public confidence in governance and fostered greater community participation in state development projects.
He praised Governor Oyebanji’s deep understanding of the state’s developmental needs, attributing it to his long-standing involvement in the affairs of the state dating back to the movement for the creation of Ekiti. The Commissioner highlighted the governor’s consistent contributions to governance since Ekiti’s creation, describing him as a leader whose insights and competence are shaping Ekiti’s present and future.
“The Governor’s six-point development agenda is not just a blueprint but a lived reality in all communities in Ekiti,” Olatunbosun stated. “Under his watch, agriculture has been transformed into a viable business—agribusiness. Education is being redefined. Workers’ welfare is prioritized. Industrialization is taking root. We are seeing comprehensive and inclusive growth.”
Olatunbosun further outlined some of the major strides of the administration, particularly in workers’ welfare. He said over ₦15 billion has been paid in accumulated pension arrears, while monthly gratuity disbursements now exceed ₦200 million. He added that the government has also introduced digital promotion processes and improved working conditions for civil servants, thereby fostering greater job satisfaction and motivation in the public service.
“In every sector, the signs of progress are unmistakable,” he continued. “From small and medium-sized enterprise support to robust infrastructure development—rural roads, improved electricity supply through the Independent Power Project (IPP), and better urban road networks—the government is delivering on its promises.”
Olatunbosun also addressed the wave of public endorsements being received by Governor Oyebanji across political and community groups, describing them as a testament to his excellent performance and a clarion call for continuity.
“These endorsements are not just political; they are expressions of the people’s trust. They challenge us to do more, to remain focused, and to redouble our efforts in building a prosperous Ekiti for all,” the Commissioner concluded.
