Ekiti Mourns as Alara of Aramoko, Oba Olu Adegoke Adeyemi, Passes On at 82

The ancient town of Aramoko-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area has been thrown into mourning following the passing of its traditional ruler, the Alara of Aramoko-Ekiti, Oba Olu Adegoke Adeyemi, at the age of 82.

A statement issued by the royal family on Saturday confirmed that the monarch died on Friday, describing him as a leader whose reign was defined by “remarkable leadership, wisdom, and dedication to the welfare of his people.”

“Oba Adeyemi’s impact on the community will forever be cherished as a testament to his enduring legacies,” the statement read.

Born on December 4, 1942, Oba Adeyemi began his career as a teacher before rising to the top echelon of the civil service. He later served as Sole Administrator of the former Ifesowapo Local Government, a role in which he distinguished himself through visionary governance and commitment to grassroots development.

Ascending the throne in 2009, Oba Adeyemi brought into the palace the same diligence and hands-on leadership style that had defined his years in public service. His reign was marked by significant strides in community development, cultural preservation, conflict resolution, and youth empowerment.

Beyond the palace, Oba Adeyemi served as Chancellor of Ekiti State University, where he championed initiatives to improve educational standards and broaden access for young people in the state.

The royal family noted that the late monarch’s leadership fostered unity and progress in Aramoko-Ekiti, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations.

Details of his burial arrangements, the family added, will be announced in due course.
