Emure-Ekiti Global Impact Convener, J.T. Akinlolu, Graces Wedding of Tolani Abimbola and Olayemi Felix Abegunde in Ise-Ekiti on August 16.

It was a day steeped in joy, colour, and cultural splendour as families, friends, and dignitaries converged on Ise-Ekiti to celebrate the wedding of Miss Tolani Abimbola and Mr. Olayemi Felix Abegunde. The marriage, described by many as “a union of two towns,” beautifully showcased the shared heritage of Emure-Ekiti and Ise-Ekiti, reinforcing age-old bonds of friendship and kinship.

Among the high-profile guests in attendance was the Convener, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief of Emure-Ekiti Global Impact, Mr. J.T. Akinlolu, who joined other dignitaries to honour the new couple. His presence highlighted the significance of the event not just as a family occasion but also as a broader cultural celebration that unites communities.

Three-in-One Celebration

The day’s programme unfolded in three phases, beginning promptly at 8:00 a.m. with a solemn service at CAC St. John Freedom Land, Ise-Ekiti. The church brimmed with songs of praise, prayers, and blessings as the couple exchanged vows before God, family and friends.

Following the church service, guests proceeded to the Estate Event Centre, Odo Omooba Street, where the traditional engagement ceremony was held. Here, the richness of Yoruba culture was on full display — from the formal exchange of gifts to prostrations, prayers and the wisdom-filled words of elders from both families.

The engagement seamlessly flowed into a vibrant reception at the same venue, where guests were treated to lively music, cultural performances and an array of delicacies. Laughter, dance, and heartfelt wishes filled the hall until evening, sealing the joyous union.

Royal Fathers Add Prestige

The event reached even greater significance with the presence of royal fathers from both Emure-Ekiti and Ise-Ekiti, whose attendance underscored the cultural weight of the occasion.

Speaking at the reception, one of the royal fathers, HRM Oba James Babatunde Ajiboye, Otutubiosun I, Ajigbotulu, the Elemure of Emure-Ekiti, offered his blessings to the couple and prayed for enduring peace between the two towns.

“This union is not just between Tolani and Olayemi; it is between Emure and Ise. May their home be filled with joy, children, and prosperity. And may the bond between our two towns continue to flourish, just as this couple has flourished in love,” Kabiyesi declared.

Similarly, a royal father from Ise-Ekiti also blessed the couple, describing the wedding as “a divine arrangement that strengthens unity.”

“When our children marry across towns, they extend the frontiers of love and peace. We pray that this union becomes a light not just to their families but to our communities at large,” he said.

Their words drew warm applause from guests, many of whom noted the symbolic weight of having traditional rulers jointly celebrate and bless the marriage.

Colour, Elegance and Culture

The wedding hall was magnificently decorated with sage green and beige floral designs, balloons and drapings that gave the celebration a regal touch. Guests honoured the couple by appearing in coordinated outfits in the colours of the day — sage green, beige and shades of gold — creating a picturesque atmosphere of elegance.

The cultural vibrancy of Yoruba weddings was unmistakable as songs, dances, and traditions filled the day. The coming together of two towns was not only expressed in rituals but also in the joyous interactions between guests from both communities.
